How to prolong the life of pellets

When producing or buying pellets, the total amount usually exceeds their needs. They store the pellets for future use or sale. So the question is: How do you store the pellets and store them outdoors? How to extend their life?

How long can pellets last?

Pellets are formed by pellet machines. In granulator room, high temperature causes chemical change of lignin in biomass material. Biomass pellets contain 75-85% of carbon and 3-6% of ash and 1-3% of moisture. They are small, low density, high purity, high calorific value, easy to store and transport.

Usually, pellets are packed in plastic bags or woven bags. They do not have all the air and moisture. The storage life of biomass pellets depends on the humidity of the surrounding environment. When the moisture content in the pellets reaches a certain level, they become loose and unusable.

If the humidity is less than 10, the pellets can be preserved for 6 months. If above 10, the storage time is 1-3 months. Usually, production or purchase of pellets according to the use of demand. A month of storage is sufficient, so it is not common to save for more than one month.

In addition, you can use the wood pellet machine to make their own pellets. It doesn't cost you too much money or power, and raw materials are easily available. If you need to use pellets for a long time, pellet press is more economical. You can control production as needed without worrying about storage problems.

How to store pellets?

As noted above, the environment has an impact on the storage life of biomass pellets. If stored improperly, they are susceptible to moisture and rupture and are not suitable for combustion. The key to preserving wood pellets is to keep wood free from moisture and fire.

Dampproof

Biomass pellets tend to be loose and nonflammable when in contact with water. As a result, moisture content in the air is detrimental to wood particles, especially during the rainy season. So we should store wood pellets in moisture-proof packaging. In this way, we can preserve particles under various conditions.

Outdoor storage

For people who don't have enough space to store wood pellets, shacks in dry places are a compromise option. Check and repair any cracks or holes in the bag with waterproof tape. Cover pellets bags with extra firmly fixed tarpaulins to protect them from moisture and piercing.

Fire prevention

Biomass pellets are flammable products. Any open fire can cause a fire. When you buy or produce wooden pellets, do not pile them around the stove or boiler. Someone should be responsible for the inspection of safety risks.

Special requirements

When the temperature is 25 and the relative humidity is 70, the molds and spores will grow in the pellets. Therefore, the relative humidity of pellets storage should be lower than 60 meters. Ventilation and dehumidification equipment must be installed in high humidity areas.
