EFB refers to the empty fruit bunches of oil palm. As we know, oil palm fruits grows on large bunches. Every bunch has more than 2000 fruits. Oil palm is the most efficient oil production plant in the world. In Malaysia, the oil yield is 5 tons per hectare, which is much more than peanuts and soybeans. It is widely used as cooking oil or biodiesels.

Palm oil is extracted from palm kernel and flesh by cook, crush and squeeze. During this process, the empty fruit bunches and palm shells are separated. They are an enormous amount of residues. Take Malaysia for example: the palm planting area is over 4 million hectares, with the left EFB more than 15 million tons.

For a long time, they are discarded in palmary or burned to ash as fertilizer, with a few of them fully recycled. Because EFB contains vascular bundles, a fibrous material with high elasticity and low density, they can be used to make papers and cushions. Besides, owing to its high heat value and low carbon emission, it emerge as an excellent biomass energy, widely applied in power generation and industrial production.

How to make pellets with EFB pellet press?

EFB pellet press can also process other biomass materials like sawdust, maize stalk, rice husk, peanut shell, etc. The distinction is their compression ratio, which is varied according to specific raw materials. The EFB pellets making process includes drying, crushing, pressing, cooling and packaging.

Naturally, EFB is saturated with water coming from moist environment or processing process. We must dewater the raw material with a dryer machine as a way to improve the fuel property. After drying it will be much lighter and more compact, easier for further treatment.

In the EFB pellet press, the high pressure and continually stir from the roller and die heat the raw materials up to high temperature, under which they are molded into solid and dense EFB pellets.And the moisture content is further reduced during this process.

Crushing is the process to turn empty fruit bunches into EFB powder with a hammer mill. Crushing makes EFB fine enough to be fed into the pellet press.

After all these procedures, EFB get too hot to touch. Just wait until they are cooled. Then package them into large or small bags for sale. They are suitable for household and business use.
