Rice husk, also the most common being rice hull or chaff, is the outermost layer of the seed or grain which is separated from the rice grains during the milling process. It is a yellowish color and has a convex shape. It is formed from hard material, such as silica and lignin, in order to protect the seed during the growing season.

According to the research of IRRI(The International Rice Research Institute), about 20 percent of grain weight is husk, each kg of milled rice can release approximately 0.28 kg of rice husk as the by-product.
