Rice husk, also the most common being rice hull or chaff, is the outermost layer of the seed or grain which is separated from the rice grains during the milling process. It is a yellowish color and has a convex shape. It is formed from hard material, such as silica and lignin, in order to protect the seed during the growing season.
According to the research of IRRI(The International Rice Research Institute), about 20 percent of grain weight is husk, each kg of milled rice can release approximately 0.28 kg of rice husk as the by-product.
As for the appearance, rice husk is slightly larger than a grain of rice, and the length maybe up to 7mm, the dimensions maybe 4mm by 6mm. It is lightweight compared to other things, and have a ground bulk density of 340kg/m3 to 400kg/m3.
Generally speaking, rice husk is abundantly available in rice production countries such as China, Bangladesh, Brazil, US, India, Cambodia, Vietnam, Myanmar, and South East Asia. Annually, there maybe about 770 million tons of husk produced in Asia.
In the past, rice husk was always considered as the waste product, they were burned or dumped in the rivers or on landfills, which can cause serious environment problem and related human health problems.
But in recent years, the uses of rice husk are continually growing, now it is increasingly used as biomass to fuel and co-fuel power plants or feed animals. This is because that the shortage of energy is one of the most biggest challenges human faced, with the consumption and dried up of the fossil fuels such as petroleum and coal, to find some alternative source is becoming more and more urgent, this is the strategy each country should give priority to develop. Biomass fuel is on the agenda, it means utilize the biomass pelletizing equipment, such as rice husk pelletizing machine to process some waste things into pellets to solve the energy problem.
So according to the trend of market, rice husk is also always processed into rice husk pellets as biofuels or the fodder of many animals, such as chicken, fish, pig, cow, sheep and etc. In fact, in most countries, rice husk is not waste anymore, some enterprising companies are turning it into various products and pellets not only used in the eco-conscious market place but also for the industrial usage. The finished rice husk pellets are cylindrical granule with uniform size.
Rice husk pellets are produced by rice husk pelletizing machine, the density of rice husk pellets are much higher than the raw material of rice husk, and there is perfect combustion performance for rice husk pellets. So it is proven that rice husk pellets are mainly used in industrial boilers or home stoves as a substitute for fossil fuel.
The burning performance of rice husk is much better, and there is not sulfur and heavy metal, the pollution is pretty tiny. What’s more, the combustible component of rice husk can up to 70 percent, the calorific value is 12.5 to 14.6 MJ/kg, which is appropriately the half of coal, so make rice husk into pellets with rice husk pelletizing machine has the brightly prospect.
Due to the bulk density of rice husk is small, generally 100-140kg/m3, and the surface is rigidity, both are have limitation to the usage. While, with the help of rice husk pelletizing machine, rice husk can easily processed into pellets, which can improve the combustion efficiency and reduce the cost of transportation and storage.
Now that rice husk pellets have so many advantages such as lower pollution, high combustion ratio and higher economic effectiveness, it’s time for you to act, to find the most suitable rice husk pelletizing equipment.
