What is wood pellet?

Wood pellets are used for heating and offer a completely sustainable alternative to other fuel sources, which is made of waste wood, tree branches, wood chips, and sawdust, etc. Burning of wood pellet is clean, and, because of health and air quality control considerations, wood pellets are preferable to coal for electricity generation. Produced without additives and part of the natural carbon cycle, wood pellets are net neutral for generating no increased greenhouse gas emissions.

The benefit of wood pellet

Because of the feature of wood itself, wood pellets are more efficient wood, sustainable forestry, clean heat and responsible industrial waste recycling. On the one hand, wood pellets save energy and resource, protect the environment, on the other hand, they make good use of waste materials, and change them into new material that can be took advantage of so that we could decrease loss and increase earnings from the origin.

Procedures of making wood pellet at home

To meet the demand of making wood pellet at home, GEMCO just pushes out four kinds of pellet mill to help you make wood pellets at home. They are pellet mill with electric motor, pellet mill with diesel engine, pellet mill with gasoline and pellet with PTO. After having the most important tools, the next steps are easy to do.

Step One: Assemble Wood Pellet Mill & Collect Wood Materials

Wood materials are multiple including tree branches, wood chips, and sawdust which are in different size and larger than 1 inch. So before doing something, we need to use a hammer mill to reduce the size and make it as small as possible.

Step Two: Drying

All the raw materials need to be in a dry state when they are put into the pellet mill. You ‘d better choose the drum dryer which has low cost and simple operation procedures, or a flatbed dryer is also a good choice, which works at a relatively low temperature.

Step Three: Sieve Impurities

Sieve impurities includes metals, stones or others which hides in those raw materials for the first time, avoiding the bigger stones and other materials are separated manually to separate the raw materials from the foreign objects. This step makes later wood pellets more pure and inclusion-free so that they are more efficient and practical for using in manufacture and agriculture.

Step Four: Pelletize Wood into Pellets

Make wood materials into 4 to 8 centimeters. It makes a better condition for pelletizing. Then we will get into pelletizing. From the hopper put in raw materials, with operation of pellet mill, the wood pellets will be extruded by the machines and become hot and soft, which must be sized properly to the operator’s requirements.

Step Five: Cooling

After wood pellets done, we need to cool them for turning them into harden and strengthened. If not, those hotly extruded pellets will be in a lower quality and combustion rate, not to mention the profit that they would offer.

Step Six: Package & Storage

After complicated process, how to keep them to ensure a convenient use and better appearance also needs to pay attention. So we package wood pellets into small bags and keep them in a dry and ventilated place where is water-tight and withstand the pressure of the pellets until the moment they are used.
